Oliver Lucanus is excited to share an in-depth look at Aequidens paloemeuensis, a fantastic new cichlid making its aquarium hobby debut. Described in 1989, this species has a limited distribution, being found in the Paleomeu River, a tributary of the Tapanahony River in Suriname. Lucanus reports that this region is remote by any definition, being only accessible via small, chartered aircraft. The difficult logistics of bringing these fish to the trade means that Suriname’s fish are always going to fetch top-dollar.
While the Aequidens is meant to be the star of the show, the supporting cast is equally eye-catching. One could argue that Lucanus’s sidebar on Hypomasticus despaxi is extremely noteworthy! Plus, the biotope footage showing large groups of Guianacara sphenozona brings yet another attractive fish to your attention.
We won’t give away too much of the story though, so watch below!
I have seen the Below Water video on You Tube and it is fantastic! I can`t wait for this fish to become available in the hobby.
