Every once in a while, something stands out and captures the attention of AMAZONAS editors, and this recent video from Hungarian aquascaping powerhouse Green Aqua caused us to stop and realize this was a “must share.” Green Aqua has long had our attention via their YouTube channel, but we cannot recall ever seeing an aquarium video quite like this, from anyone. Where to begin?

For anyone who’s spent time in the retail aquarium trade, you may already be aware of the vital importance that professional aquarium maintenance services can play in a local aquarium shop’s success. In some cases, what the casual aquarist knows as simply the mom & pop aquarium shop may actually well serve as the showroom and meeting place for a much larger service business that functions as the financial backbone for the entire company; some aquarium shops would be out of business quickly if they failed to offer this highly-valued service.

A thriving and lush aquarium can be challenging to create and maintain, but bringing a living work of art into a commercial space is worth all the effort.

It’s difficult to explain the scope of professional aquarium maintenance to someone who’s never been a part of it. It can range from something as mundane as someone’s 10-gallon home aquarium with a monthly water change visit, to weekly stops at a large scale commercial installation. While one might assume that professional aquarium maintenance is a service and luxury exclusively retained by rather well-off individuals, other times service providers are viewed as mentors or problem solvers.

When aquarium maintenance is “all you do”, you develop certain methodologies and routines. In some respects, the aquarium service professional might have comparable skills, and the innate instincts, of a veteran hobbyist who’s been at it for decades, but these abilities grow exponentially faster when all you do, day in and day out, is service aquariums.

Green Aqua has clearly mastered the task of placing a beautiful planted aquarium into a commercial setting.

In every sense, aquarium maintenance is a profession, and Green Aqua’s latest video celebrates the art, skill, and science, of this unique niche trade. Consider the added challenge of creating an aquascaped, planted aquarium design that is not competition-oriented and ephemeral, but rather is meant for truly long-term enjoyment over the course of years. You’ll see a 2-hour maintenance visit condensed into a roughly 5-minute before-during-and-after video, and the aquarium is a stunning aquascape that any of us would be proud to have in our home or office.
