Adding aquarium plants doesn’t always have to be a headache. Ideal for both beginners and seasoned aquascapers looking for a versatile foreground decorative plant, Anubias spp. are diverse and hardy. A gorgeous round-leaf species, Anubias barteri is found in African forest streams in many color variants including this “Gold” form. Like eye-catching gold coins, this decorative plant looks great surrounded by other greenery.

Like all Anubias, it is characterized by a creeping growth pattern, and its rhizomes may be attached to wood or rocks. The rhizomes may be split to produce clones. Anubias can be grown emersed or submerged, but will only flower, pollinate, and propagate above the water line. Tolerant to a wide range of water conditions, Anubias barteri “Gold” can be kept in waters with temperatures between 68 and 86°F, pH of 5.5 to 9, and does not require CO2, added fertilizer, or high light.
